System-wide measurements of the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC) extend back only about 20 years.
Notes on verification
Multiple independent scientific sources (AGU, National Oceanography Centre, Royal Society) confirm the RAPID-MOCHA-WBTS array at 26°N, operating since 2004, is the only continuous system-wide AMOC observation system, giving about 20 years of data. Prior measurements were sporadic hydrographic snapshots, not continuous. [tier=gold indep_score=0.983 clusters=3 claim_tier=notable]
